We love a new venue and boy did we love this one! The West Mill in Derbyshire is set on the banks of the River Derwent and used to be a cotton spinning mill dating back to the early 1800s. It is a Grade I listed building and has been stunningly restored into a successful exclusive use wedding venue. So our first wedding here was to be that of the lovely Lara and Adam.
When we arrived in the morning the weather wasn’t looking very promising for outdoor photos however that wasn’t going to deter us. Adam was up on the 2nd floor with the groomsmen rehearsing a very special piece for the best man’s speech. This floor was where the couple and their guests would be having their wedding breakfast later on. It was already beautifully decorated and many of the flowers by The Flower House Hulland Ward were already on the tables. They were also responsible for the amazing floral backdrop in the ceremony room on the 3rd floor and the bouquets.
Lara arrived with her bridesmaids, Gillian from GM Hairdressing and Heather, her make up artist and they made their way to the bridal dressing room. Lara’s Pronovias gown was from Betty McCaul Bridal in London.
The guys were downstairs on the ground floor welcoming guests. Adam’s suit had been made for him by Tailor Made in London.
Throughout the day we had Andrew, Chrissie and the team at the venue keeping things running really smoothly so that the couple didn’t have to worry about a thing.
During the ceremony Whitehall String Quartet playing and they continued during the drinks reception. We were able to get outside for a fabulous confetti line up after the ceremony and then the weather held off for us to get plenty of shots using the outdoor spaces. It was then back in for the wedding breakfast which was followed by some fantastic speeches including the performance of all performances by the groomsmen and a finale by the Groom! Absolutely brilliant entertainment.
The venue is such that each area is ready and waiting for the next part of the day so it was down a level to the 1st floor for the evening to get underway with dancing to Plastic Soul from Manchester. We were able to capture a few extra photos before we left making use of some of the features for some lit shots.
A huge thanks to all the team at West Mill for a great day. And an even bigger thank you to the family and friends of Lara and Adam who were fab to work with. If you want to see a few more photos then contact the couple for the password along with the discount code for prints.
